Christmas
Like in other parts of the world, the Christian population in Penang
celebrate Christmas on 25th of December every year to commemorate the birth of
Lord Jesus Christ.
Christmas here is usually spent with family and friends; and it known as the
love, giving and forgiving. During Christmas eve, families gather and have a
special family dinner, with a mix of western dishes and local delicacies such as
beef rendang and chicken curry. It is then customary to attend the midnight mass
or Christmas service at their local church.
In Malaysia, like any other festivals, it is common for families or companies to
host “ Christmas Open House” where friends from different faiths will pay them a
visit to enjoy delicious food and sometimes exchange gifts.
Christmas season is one of the busiest seasons in Penang and like any other
celebrations in Malaysia, it is usually celebrated with a hearty feast whether
in the form of an open house, intimate home-cooked dinners, or out at a
restaurant. During the Christmas season, many hotels and restaurants also offer
special dining promotions giving Penangites an array of options to choose from.
